What are your best healthy eating habits?

What are my best healthy eating habits?

This is where I get to talk about my excessively boring lifestyle dedicated to consistency and routine.

Yes. It’s all about the triplets : Discipline, Dedication and Determination…and obviously their loner coousin, Hydration.

No. I don’t fall for the charms of their evil uncle, Temptation.

I told you, I am boring when it comes to my healthy eating habits.

I don’t stay away from anything in particular. It’s all about moderation. And that has always worked.

This is coming from someone who went through a phase riddled with anorexia and bulimia, so trust me, it is possible to reach Buddhahood in terms of healthy eating habits.

I have never been one to indulge either in sweets or in fried snacks. From hating them to liking them to finding a middle ground; I have tasted every phase until I reached a space when I could relate to them from a healthy point of view.

I am strict about WHEN I eat more than WHAT I eat.

A litre and half of water between 4:00 am and 7:00 am. Aiming for three and a half litres by the end of the say. A cup of green tea at 5:00 am. A workout at 6:30 am. Breakfast at 8:30 am, a cup of herbal tea at 9:00 am, lunch at 1:00 pm, a cup of black tea at 4:00 pm and dinner at 8.00 pm. Fruits in between at 11:00 am and 5:00 pm. Some snacks if I get too hungry in between.

Breakfast is usually varieties of idlis, dosas, uttappas, poha, upma and a typical desi pasta on some Sundays.

Lunch is rice, sambar/dal/pappu/kozhambu/rasam and two varieties of curries. Pulaos, dalchas, biryanis, puris and choles, fancy curries walk in and out of the meal plate as and when I want a twist in the palate.

Roti for dinner with leftovers, even if the world thinks roti and rasam don’t go together with beans poriyal. I really don’t give a f***.

My health. My choice. It’s healthy, well-balanced and home-made. Enough said.

I hit the bed by 9:30 pm and it’s repeat and rinse. Day in and day out.

I don’t eat out. Take out is a rarity.

I have never gotten bored. I doubt if I ever will. I am exceptionally happy with my health as I have no major issues except some related to menopause. I have maintained the same weight for 25 years since I was 20.

It only means my seemingly impossible and boring routine is working for my body and mind. And I don’t intend to change it for any fad or fashion that is currently trending.

I might live like a fossil but aren’t fossils always valued best long after their life and time is past?

  1. That’s such healthy eating habits, Lalitha. Our health is so important. 👍

    1. Our health is the most important thing Aptivi. Health is probably the only wealth that is fully in our control.

  2. Lalitha, I can so relate to the homemade food part. 🤍 I’m not very strict with food either, but I do prefer simple, healthy ghar ka khana. Honestly, ghar ka bana khana has a different kind of soul to it. 😄 My bigger problem is that I hardly feel hungry, so eating on time is something I actually have to remind myself to do. And hydration is a big part of my routine too. The only thing I haven’t quite managed is the early-to-bed part… late nights and early mornings are still winning 😂

And that fossil line… I loved it. Maybe we really don’t need to change everything just because something new is trending. Some things become timeless precisely because they’ve worked for so long. 🦋✨

    1. You said it Rajeshwariji! Ghar ka khana definitely has a different kind of soul to it!

Hardly ever feel hungry!! 🫪That had me laughing!!

Our relationship with food os deeply personal. It shouldn’t be changed drastically just because… Sadly it’s so easy to fall to trends these days. I am glad our wavelength with food is similar.

Care to drop a tiny pearl from the ocean of your mind?
