I met them right here. How?
Well…care for a poem first?
Headlong Ahoy!
Diving headlong into relationships,
hoping for clear waters,
Test-drived,
Thrived,
Strived,
Deprived,
Revived,
Nose-dived,
Survived.
Arrived at Myself.
Behind the scenes:
Today is a double bonus for me! My 18 word poem for Sammi Cox’s weekend writing prompt challenge featuring the word for the weekend Headlong, depicts the journey of meeting my significant other beginning from my quest to find them in the other to finally arriving at my own heart’s door.
I like to define a significant other as the most important relationship of our lives. I also believe the most important relationship of our lives is the one we share with our own selves.
Everyone else is a lesson.
They come. They teach. They go.
Leaving us enriched.
Either through the void they leave behind, the pain they put us through or the loneliness we wade through in their absence. The strength we gain in fighting our way out through hardship is unparalleled.
Or becoming a mirror that reflects our true self in all it’s glory. Teaching us through their presence all that we are and all that is possible for us. In other words, becoming the air beneath our wings as we fly towards our infinite potential.
I am known to dive headlong into relationships of all kinds. Friendships, partnerships, romantic relationships. My curiosity takes precedence over prudence.
People who have significantly changed my life and my perception of it through time have all been my most important relationships. Until the day I arrived at my own self, they have held my back and seen me through some of the most devastating times and some of the most restorative.
Incidentally I met them all here on WordPress in 2018/19. Coincidence? Nope. I don’t believe in coincidences. It’s divine providence.
My words dispersed themselves as pollen on WP, found fertile ground in Sabrina, Benji and Judah, fertilized into potent seeds and germinated into enthusiastic seedlings.
They found a sunny safe space under their loving shade and helped me grow into a better writer at first. But it didn’t stop there.
The seedling in me grew into a tree rising high into the sky flowering, fruiting and giving shade to many others who needed it. The human in me spread her arms wide and grew into a rooted, grounded woman; sensitive, caring, courageous and grateful.
Providence brought us together in different ways and taught me the true meaning of friendship, kinship and love. One stayed, the others dispersed. Just as they walked in, they walked out…towards their own destiny.
As I write in my poem, I dove headlong into the ships, hoping for clear waters, nothing much. Some test-driving led to thriving. Some striving to deprivation. Distance can do that. People do tend to move in different directions as life happens to them.
Some surprise revivals later, a complete nose dive to nothingness. Just static and silence. Through it all though, I survived.
Finally arriving at my own heart’s door. To my own true self that has always been waiting for me to claim it as the one true love of my life.
The road to myself began where the roads to the other ended.
Is it any wonder then that my significant other is myself?
So if you ask me how I met myself, I would have to say THANK YOU WORDPRESS for the timely help! You played a pivotal role in pivoting my words in the right direction at the right time and for that I will be eternally grateful. If not for you I would be stuck at a hard place posing some very boring existential questions and chewing the head of the divine for answers!
