The Butterfly Effect: How Our Choices Shape History

Daily writing prompt
If you could erase one event from history, what would it be?

I strongly believe in three things.

One: I am not inconsequential in the history of time. I matter however small I might be in the grand scheme of the universe.

Two: There is only so much under my control. I can only control events that are in some way related to me.

Three: The butterfly effect. It’s part of chaos theory. Essentially meaning, small changes in the start of a system can cause huge, wild differences in the future.

So, I want to be that butterfly that flaps it’s wings here and causes a tornado like change in the history of time. Because I know it is possible and I know it will be significant.

What is under my control is my life. So if I could, I would love to erase my life out of the history of time and come back again, giving myself a fresh start. A chance to rewrite my history. A choice to write a new story.

Every little choice of mine; intentional or not has made a difference in someone’s life, big or small. Every decision of mine has affected someone else, one way or the other.

Every thought of mine has either caused harm or benefited; either to myself or the world at large. Every word uttered by me has changed the way someone felt and experienced life itself. Every act of mine, seemingly insignicant has sent across the universe it’s rippling effect causing Godonlyknows what!

I will never know for sure how much of an impact my life has made to the history of time. Have I made myself and my existence count?

I don’t know.

So, I would erase that one thing that is well within my limit and control.

Myself.

So the next time I am slipped back into the system by time, I make myself count. Create a history for myself that impacts the world around me in a gentler, softer, kinder way.

P.S. Before you go on to point that my birth isn’t really in my hands, hence out of my control, let me just say that is an esoteric discussion meant for another day where we can talk freely without judgement on matters of the Soul and a Soul’s choice to incarnate or not. It’s way beyond the scope of today’s prompt and let’s respect that.

I am the ripple and the rippling. I am the butterfly that holds the power to change not just history but time itself.

  1. Such a profound and thought-provoking reflection Lalitha🤍 I love how you’ve woven together the ideas of purpose, choice, and the quiet impact we create through our everyday actions. Sometimes we may never see the ripples we create, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t reaching far. May we all learn to be that gentle butterfly whose wings bring kindness, love, and meaningful change. 🌸🦋✨
