Sleep tight, my child.
Sleep tight.
Sleep light, sleep light.
Sleep right, sleep right.
*
Sleep in the comfort of my soft sheets,
Sleep in the safety of my warm pleats,
Sleep tight, my child.
Sleep tight.
*
Sleep in the sweetness of my essence,
Sleep in the surrender of my penance,
Sleep light, my child.
Sleep light.
*
Sleep in the knowing of curling time,
Sleep in the churning of furling clime,
Sleep right, my child.
Sleep right.
*
Sleep, my child.
Snuggled tight in the cosy haven of my bloom,
Nestled light in the heavenly bouquet of my blossom,
Rested right in the wholesome refuge of my bosom.
Behind the scenes:
I was inspired by the picture of the bumble bee huddled in the midst of a flower.
I love macro photography and usually zoom in on all macro images, trying to get up, close and personal with the subject of the picture. For me it’s a way to connect with what lies beyond the image.
To my eyes, the bee looked like it was asleep peacefully, hugging the petal tight. Content in the knowing that it is held. Safe in the loving bosom of the flower where it is taken care of as a child would.
Sometimes a picture speaks to us in ways no human can. It touches those tender, most hidden soft spots within us that we keep away from the harsh sun of the world. Away from our own awareness. Nestled deep in our consciousness, waiting for a single crack… for the light to seep in and break open our shell.
This picture melted me. It spoke to the mother within me. The mother I am not in real life. The motherhood I said no to.
The words just flowed. I wrote the poem from the perspective of the flower being the mother rocking her child to sleep in her warm, comforting bosom.
