A random hello,
Some precious good mornings
Some grateful good nights
Some thoughtful yeah sure, lets
Some regretful maybe next times
Some anxious text me backs
Some heartfelt take cares
A hurried nonchalant goodbye.
Between some unsaid I love yous
And some unheard I am sorrys
Who am I but a hodgepodge of feelings?
A 55 word poem written for the Weekend Writing Prompt Challenge by Sammi Cox featuring the word of the weekend Hodgepodge.
Behind the scenes:
A random post about goodbyes led to me reliving a chapter of my life that rivals any fairytale. Voila! A poem is born.
A random comment on a friend’s blog led to a genuine question out of curiosity which led to an awkward hello over email. The connection moved on to texting over Whatsapp for a few months and then a phone call on a sunny May evening. An extremely shy video call followed where the both of us blushed more and talked less.
Months stacked one on top of the other and on a rainy Mumbai afternoon I was on a flight to Kenya.
Our love story began with formal greetings and ended with a nonchalant goodbye. Clueless to the knowing that we might not last through the pandemic. Clueless that it was probably the last time we met.
Between the length and breadth of the story lives and breathes my heart.
Still beating for a man living by a river run dry. Still cherishing the time I spent loving the big african sun. Still wondering if I did everything by the book. Still living, knowing that at the end of my life, I will have ticked off the dream of having a fairytale of a love story under my name.
Who am I but a hodgepodge of feelings?
