Sleep and I?
Looking to my left, then right. I even turn around.
Are you talking to me?
Well, you are asking the wrong person, dude!
Sleep and I are divorced. We haven’t been together for decades. Not in that way atleast.
Not in any way actually to tell you the truth.
Sleep and I were best friends turned lovers.
Marriage ruined it for us. The longer we were together, the more distance Sleep put between us.
I am anxiously attached. Sleep was obviously a dismissive avoidant.
I chased. It ran.
I loved harder. It ran faster.
I counted sheep. Hoping those sheep would drag back Sleep to my bed. Sleep sat around ignoring me with a sly grin on it’s freakishly handsome face. Like I was a nun with a chastity belt. I look the part I, know. But I swear I wasn’t!
I meditated. Sleep went around Mindsville with every Tina, Diana and Helena. Each creating spawn after spawn until Mindsville had to put a ban on their debauchery.
I read. Sleep took Dreamland to a bed and breakfast and bang, bang, bang went the fireworks! You get the drift. More spawn. Little mongol-eyed Dreams are running around everywhere even today! Occupying every piece of stationery at home.
I chanted. Ashamed, Sleep put a rubber on it’s depravity.
Don’t rejoice yet. Even the Gods couldn’t force Sleep to keep it in it’s pants. Off it went to town again! I am sure the guy manufacturing those rubbers has a beautifully detailed night time ritual. I don’t see him complaining!
I tried the famous Chamomille tea truce. It seemed to sooth Sleep. Nirvana at last, huh? Maybe a peace treaty was on the horizon? The awfully sweet aroma did stop Sleep from dilly dallying.
For exactly a month.
The roving eye maniac was off to Godonlyknowswhere on it’s land rover. This time for good.
So you want to know what I do to improve my relationship with Sleep?
Nothing.
I don’t do anything anymore.
Been everywhere. Done everything.
It’s been decades. Nothing worked for me.
I simply gave up.
I gave up my saintly wifely duties towards Sleep. No more counting, chanting, praying.
Quit my thriving forgiveness business and gave Sleep a much needed divorce. Bid goodbye to a relationship that was wildly chaotic at it’s best. There is nothing I expect from it anymore.
We had fun back when fun was innocent and consisted of looking at the moon and drawing circles around stars we loved. Now even the sky looks hungover every other day. Where did the soberlings disappear?
Like everything else…one of us got bored, got tired and looked elsewhere to satisfy it’s needs. Leaving the other to figure out a way to find a comfortable position on the bed that leaves the back a little less sore in the morning, what with the endless tossing and turning.
End of story.
