The Eternal Quest for God

O Lord, my God, where art thou?

Eternal quest for what lies beyond eternity,

Tirelessly pining for the One that lies beyond the End.

Life and Death is but a game of breath,

Myth and Reality converging at immortal Stillness.

A poem written for the Weekend Word Prompt Challenge by Sammicox inspired by own quest.

Word for the weekend : Eternity

Word limit: 40

Behind the scenes:

I was never one to ask, Who am I?

So isn’t it obvious my quest for God began outside of me; in people, then places ultimately ending within myself.

In the tangibe; worshipping parents and siblings. Putting friends and lovers on high pedestals.

In the intangible; I looked everywhere for the light that would help me fill the void within me.

Everyone flailed. They were but human and I was searching for the eternal in the temporary.

Everything failed. Turning to books and prayers, chants and temples; the futile search continued directionlessly, no end in sight.

Finally when the dust settled and the cacophony of my own self went quiet, I found a reservoir of eternal Stillness within me.

The search for that which was beyond eternity ended when I found the Self within myself.

Sometimes the beginning and the ending are within each other. Most times we mistake one for the other. All the time though, unaware to us, they were but the same.

That Thou Art – Tat Tvam Asi.

The eternal quest for God begins out there and ends within ourselves
